Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lowcountry
Sometimes making a difference starts with listening, spending time together, and being someone a young person can count on.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lowcountry connects adult volunteers, called “Bigs,” with young people, called “Littles,” through one-to-one mentoring relationships supported by professional staff.
What would you do?
Spend time with your Little, explore shared interests, offer encouragement, and build trust over time. You might enjoy this if you’re a good listener, curious about other people, and ready to show up consistently.
What’s the commitment?
This is an ongoing relationship. Volunteers commit to at least 12 months of mentoring, meeting two to four times each month, with additional time for enrollment and preparation.
How do you get started?
Begin with an inquiry and orientation conversation to see whether mentoring is a good fit. The process includes an application, background check, references, training, and an interview before matching. Staff help you get started and provide ongoing support.

We loved welcoming Keonta’ Ramsey, the new CEO of @BBBSLowcountry, to the Ohm Radio studio!
Keonta’ joined us to talk about her new role, the power of one-to-one mentorship, and The BIG Raise — a month-long fundraiser supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters’ work connecting mentors and mentees across the Lowcountry.
